Lesson: Word Trees-

Objective: Blends goal of looking at word families (morphological word analysis) and substituting more interesting words during writing revision.

Explain that during revision, you should not only be looking at editing your mistakes in spelling and punctuation, but looking at the words you used and think about other words you could use instead.  These base words are the simplest form of the word (Can you make a connection with this and what you do in Math?) Build is what part of speech? (verb) remember that you can change the part of speech of the word by altering or changing its form.

           1)    brainstorm words that are synonyms for build (struct-latin root, create, form -base words [can stand on its own})

          2)   Model how to make the tree and add the words that are related to the base word

          3)   Choose groups of 2-3 to come up and work on the tree
