Description of the Data Analysis The data collected as part of this research study were from three assessments: the TOWL-3, the analytical trait writing rubric, and the morphological analysis of words/word mapping assessment. These were administered as pretests at the start of the research study and as posttests at the end of the study after explicit instruction in vocabulary skills and use of rich words in narrative writing was implemented. Additional data were obtained from the vocabulary journals in the form of an attitude assessment regarding the work we did as part of the intervention to improve vocabulary and writing. The data were recorded for each of the 5 students in the study and was displayed on a chart using a bar graph to show pretest and posttest scores for each of the assessments. This graph was color-coded to distinguish between pretest and posttest scores. |
