Reflections and Planned Outcomes

Description of Candidate’s Reflection:

During the time the research project took place, I recorded my reflections in a journal after each session, making sure to record the date and specific notes on the students’ involvement, progress, struggles and successes with the course of study.  This ensured that important thoughts and ideas were recorded regarding the methods, lessons, interventions, assessments, student attitudes, materials, and outcomes of each two and a half hour session.  I also reflected on dialogue that occurred with the classroom teacher, as she was an important resource in the process, and provided feedback in an objective manner.

Description of Planned Outcomes:

This study was intended to discover effective instructional practices that build vocabulary skills in order to enrich student writing by implementing explicit instructional strategies in generative word knowledge and essential language arts skills.

As a result of the explicit instruction, students would have greater facility in incorporating richer expressive words in their writing by having an increased word bank through an understanding of word knowledge, including word parts, word forms, word origins, and parts of speech.
